Greening with Purpose: The K.G.P. Foundation’s Van Mahotsav Campaign for a Sustainable Future

As environmental awareness continues to inspire meaningful change among youth-led initiatives, the K.G.P. Foundation remains at the forefront of purposeful community engagement. Under the leadership of President Srigandh Ganesh Shet, the foundation marked World Environment Day by organizing a powerful green initiative, the Van Mahotsav tree plantation campaign. Held across two key locations in Hubballi-Dharwad, this initiative exemplified the foundation’s commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and grassroots action, all rooted in the belief that local acts of care can shape a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

What did the Van Mahotsav campaign involve?

As part of this large-scale initiative, tree plantations were conducted at SJMV Mahanta First Grade Arts and Commerce College, Manth, and Rayapur Nandi Badavane, each site chosen for its communal significance. Guided by the themes “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Women for Trees”, the campaign encouraged individuals to plant trees in honor of their mothers and to celebrate the vital role of women in environmental stewardship. The Manth event was made successful through the active involvement of academic leaders including Dr. M. Rajashekarappa (Principal), Dr. Tejashwini Aralikatti (NSS Officer), Smt. G.C. Kaddipudi, and Smt. C.K. Hubli, while the Rayapur initiative saw enthusiastic support from senior citizens such as Mallikarjuna Horakeri, Basavaraja Kittur, Giri Gowda, Raju Patil, and Basavaraj Atmanand Madiwalar. With valuable assistance from municipal staff, the campaign embodied a true spirit of collaboration.

Rooted in symbolism, focused on sustainability

More than a symbolic gesture, the K.G.P. Foundation’s Van Mahotsav campaign was a practical effort to promote environmental health and civic responsibility. Each tree planted represented a step toward ecological balance, while the act itself fostered intergenerational dialogue around climate care. Volunteers, students, and local residents participated not only to contribute, but to commit, turning their presence into lasting impact. The dual messaging around maternal respect and women-led green action gave the campaign emotional and cultural depth, making the initiative both personal and powerful.
